Essalaam Great Mosque in Rotterdam

Essalam mosque, located in the city of Rotterdam, is the largest mosque in the Netherlands and also one of the largest in the entire Western European region. Funded by the Foundation's Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, this Essalaam Mosque takes about 11 years to be able to stand up as elegant as it is today.

Since the beginning of the process of development, namely in 1999 which was marked by the issuance of permits authorized the construction of several mosques
for the Muslim community in the Netherlands, places of worship are capable of accommodating 2600 pilgrims are facing rejection and opposition from various parties, especially from groups of anti-immigrant and anti--Islam in the Netherlands.

Mameluke architectural style that developed in Cairo in the 15th century is the lifeblood of this Essalam mosque building design. The walls covered with slabs of granite and has a subtle accents of blue-gray, while the tower itself is made with inspiration from the forms of Amsterdam church tower of the 17th century, designed by Hendrick de Keyser. Broadly speaking, Essalam mosque is a perfect example of what is known as fusion architecture, where the culture and Islamic identity and Rotterdam are beautifully embroidered.
